Can you do the master cleanse while breastfeeding? Personal experience or references would be appreciated!?

I would like to try the master cleanse but I am still breastfeeding. I'm thinking about doing a modified version like doing the cleanse for only a couple of days and then adding in raw vegetables, fruits and nuts. Has anyone else tried this? Do you know where I can get more information about the safety of this? What about other cleansing diets? Also, my daughter is over 12 months so she eats a lot of other foods besides breastmilk. I will be supplementing my diet with vitamins and breastfeeding herbs to keep my milk supply up.

  2. I don't know what a master cleanse is...but if it involves taking strange supplements or under eating or having any radical changes in your diet...I'd probably steer clear until you're done nursing. The diet change alone could have a profound effect in your milk and your milk production... Unless you're prepared to wean...I'd wait. Incidentally, I've been breastfeeding for 18 months (ya I said 18) and no amount of supplemental herbs can keep a supply up if you aren't eating and drinking enough. I've consumed my weight in Goats Rue, Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek and if I don't eat enough...it doesn't matter. Just cutting your food intake could devastate your production. Well, good luck in any case. :) And Kudos to you for breastfeeding this long! ******** IS THIS THE DIET YOU"RE TALKING ABOUT??*** Master Cleanse From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The Master Cleanse detox diet, also known as the Lemonade Diet, was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1941 and made popular by Peter Glickman through his book Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days, which promotes Burroughs' regimen to a modern audience.[1] Although this conviction was later overturned, the creator of the diet, Stanley Burroughs, was convicted of murder after a patient died while following his advice and doing the diet for thirty days, while rejecting chemotherapy. Burrough's murder conviction was overturned, but his convictions for falsely practicing medicine and unlawfully selling products used in the Master cleanse, claiming they cured cancer, were upheld.[2] There is no evidence that the diet has any positive health effects, other than the weight loss achieved by any potentially dangerous[3] extremely low calorie diet. ********** I'm thinking it's probably not a good idea any time...let alone while breastfeeding.
  3. Cleanses like that just aren't a great idea over all...your body cleanses itself on its own...and you should never stop eating while breastfeeding or otherwise for any reason.
  4. The point of a cleanse is that it releases all the stored toxins in your body so they can be flushed out. Anything that goes into your blood will go into your milk so cleanses are generally not a great idea when breastfeeding. As your baby is over 12 months you would have to weigh her potential exposure and decide for yourself.
  5. I would not do any cleanse while breastfeeding as cleansing not only flushes out toxins, but also nutrients (which is why you also supplement with vitamins while cleansing. The cleanse will also make you very tired for the time you are on it. I just would wait. She is 12 months old, so she may wean soon.
  6. I'm not sure about now. But cleansing is awesome. I lost 18lbs. But since you're breastfeeding. I don't think you should since you need to eat. TO breast feed and the clense is a liquid base diet. But if you want more info for the future. Visit below.
