Are People Really As Religious As They Seem Behind Closed Doors?
I left the Roman Catholic faith when I was 16 when I realized this wasn't the life for me. Since leaving I am now happy as ever. One of the main reasons why I left is because my sexual identity is not accepted in the church and I hated feeling inferior. The church wasn't so accepting towards the BDSM lifestyle and since I left and met with the open community I feel 100% better about myself and not feeling shame anymore. Just last week I went to my local BDSM club in the city and who do I see there, one of the people I used to see in the parish at my old church. He didn't recognize me because it's been a while since I saw him there but I couldn't believe it. So this brings upon the question, are people really as "holy" and religious as they appear to be behind closed doors and in their personal lives? It seems to me that human sexual needs and desires are out there and everyone will seek and find them in some form

- Probably not, I believe bible thumpers just wish they could be free!
- I firmly believe that about three out of four Christians are only Christian so that they can feel superior to somebody else. My experience with Christians is that they are the group LEAST likely to help someone else out if there's nothing in it for them. They're anything but good people.
- dude i'm not catholic and I love Jesus and he is my savior but I don't discriminate ppl Jesus never did I am happier than I have ever been the day God came into my life was the best day ever But man I must tell you I don't believe in religion it's all about the relationship with God for me Religious ppl are so weird they have a set of rules to follow and if you don't follow them they tear you to pieces that's why it's better to have a real relationship with him but me I am waiting til marriage to have sex and kiss because wasting it will get me nowhere
- Sadly enough, alot of those people are as holy as they say, and never actually get to enjoy or experience life the way that any person should. If you don't see the whole spectrum and decide for yourself, then you never really had a choice at all.
- First of all, I don't know what the BDSM is, but I'm assuming something to do with homosexuality? Either way, what does it matter? He could be gay, and still be a christian. Having faith in your religion, doesn't nessecarily mean following it exactly. Everyone sins, and "sexual needs" are not the only things that people are tempted by. Point is, even if this person was gay, or supported homosexuals, does not make them any less christian. I went to a catholic school in high school, and our priest lost his license to preach because he stated that gay marriages should be allowed, and women should be allowed to preach. This does not mean that he wasn't christian, or that he lost faith in God, simply that he didn't agree with everything the bible had to say. The bible is very out dated.
- I am not Christian in any form, nor do I subscribe to organised religion. Everyone's idea of God/Goddess/Spirit is different. I believe that sexual desires are holy. God made me do it officer! Also people take time to realise who and what they are. Sometimes they use religion to hide. you left at 16. What about those who haven't that strength, who find themselves trapped in a life they know they shouldn't be living?
- i know this kid in my class acts like hes all religious and ppl think he is but in friday prayer(im muslim) he sits in the bathroom and doesnt pray o and he thinks hes more religios then me cuz im gay but everyone in my school upon hearing im gay they said why do u even pray and fast it doesnt count cuz ur gay and i was like first of all when do u read the quran to tell me im going to hell i made him feel stupid but i hate it when ppl tell me why are u religious when ur going to hell anyways.and what makes them sure that theyre going to heaven when they dont even fast and dont even pray. i hate stupid ppl that come here just to say its a sin to be gay.
- I think you can't categorize anyone under any situation. Personally, I am much more religious in my own home. I find it annoying when people try to push their beliefs on me, so I really try to never do that to others, but when I am home alone, I pray often. I know every good thing in my life is a direct blessing from God. I understand your leaving the Catholic church. I don't want to offend anyone here, but I feel a church that excommunicates anyone for any reason is not a church led by God. A very wise person once said, "Church is not a hall for saints, it is a hospital for sinners." Jesus did not spend his time with the clergy, he spent his time with sinners, people in need of his love and counsel. I think that says it all. People are not perfect, and if the church would not accept you for ANY reason, they were wrong. I can guarantee you God loves you just as your are!! Best of luck to you!! :-)
- threes a difference between religion and Christianity ull find its the religious ppl who give the snide comments about gays not the Christians
- Hehe no one is "holy", just we're all "unholy" in different ways :) Like i read a very homophobic answer in the R&S section from some woman, who was bringing up all the typical arguments against gay people. So i decided to read her profile, and there she writes that Britney Spears is her idol. So she worships a drug taking, boozing, sexually permiscous, whore-like dressing celebrity, but yet says that all gay people will go to hell for their sins? Just doesn't seem right, does it? ^____^
- if guzzling whiskey and beating on eachother counts as religeous - yeah
- No, I have a friend, she says her church and religion prohibit cussing and having a boyfriend until she is 16. she is 13. when we run the mile she'll spew cusswords a hundred words a minute (i counted) and she really likes this boy and they are going out and have told nobody. I find out only because i can read eye language and body language.
- Don't judge a book by it's cover.
- Probably not! I think that the religious people, ahem, wish they were like everyone else.
